Episode #42: What Have You Learned About Your Team During This Pandemic?
In June, I want you to take some time and reflect on how your company performed during the pandemic. In this second week, my goal is for you to start thinking specifically about your team and how well they did. Take some time out of your schedule, whether it’s a solid hour or four 15 minute chunks of time, to write down the answers to these questions.
- Who on my team surprised me and went above and beyond in a positive manner in these last few months?
- Who on my team surprised and didn’t rise above, but acted in a way that wasn’t serving us as a team?
- In what areas did my team underperform? Which areas of underperformance are critical to the future and which ones are not?
- How can I train my team in the areas of critical underperformance?
- Who do I need to acknowledge and give appreciation to that I haven’t yet?
Call to action: Take one hour or four fifteen-minute breaks to get clear about what you’ve learned about your team.

Hello and welcome to episode number 42 of the Strategy Corner, where our goal is to get you to take action. I’m your host, Michel Zink, the owner of Intentional Solutions Corp. Today’s strategy is what have you learned about your team during this pandemic? Last week, we focused on you, the leader, and this week we’re going to focus on your team with the same sense of inquisitiveness as you did with yourself. Remember, we’re not beating anybody up or not judging anyone. We’re just being open, being curious. Just really not beating anybody out, but just trying to learn from the experience.
So remember, you’re coming from a place of understanding and growth, not judgment and resentment. We’re looking back to move forward more intentionally, effectively and at a quicker pace because we’ve taken the time to slow down and evaluate our team. So here are the five questions for this week’s analysis of your team and what you’ve learned during this pandemic.
Question number one, who on my team surprised me and went above and beyond in a positive manner during these last three months? Number two, who on my team surprise me and didn’t rise above, but acted in a way that wasn’t serving us as a team? Number three, in what areas did my team underperform? Which areas of underperformance are critical to the future and which ones are not? Number four, how can I train my team in the areas of critical underperformance? And number five, who do I need to acknowledge and give appreciation to that I haven’t yet?
When I sat down to really think about these questions, I put myself in your shoes. I thought about, well, if I was a business owner, if I was running, if I still worked for a manufacturing company and was running my team, I would want to step back and ask myself these questions. So really put a lot of time and effort into thinking about what would be effective for you to ask yourself so that you could learn and that you can move forward and you could utilize this information to help you and the company grow.
So your call to action is to take one hour. And again, you can take one hour all by yourself. Together you can take four fifteen-minute breaks, but you need to give yourself one hour to get clear and journal about these questions that pertain to your team, because the goal is to learn what you’ve learned about your team during this pandemic so it can help you in the future.
So here are the five questions again. Number one, who on my team surprised me and went above and beyond in a positive manner during these last three months? Number two, who on my team surprised me and didn’t rise above, but acted in a way that wasn’t serving us as a team? Number three, in what areas did my team underperform? Which areas of underperformance are critical to the future and which ones are not? Number four, how can I train my team in the areas of critical underperformance? And number five, who do I need to acknowledge and give appreciation to that I haven’t yet? So number five, who do I need to acknowledge and give appreciation to that I haven’t yet?
I’m so excited to see what you guys come up with or hear what you come up with and then be able to utilize this information moving forward. Again, the goal is to get you thinking these first three weeks. So last week we talked about questions for yourself. This week is about your team and the next week would be something else. And in the last week of June is going to be all how we can tie this together and learn from our experience.
